Ministry in the Parks

Chaplains are a friendly presence in the parks and a witness to the love of God. They are here to serve you in this special ministry.

Your chaplain can be a seminary student, layperson or ordained minister with a unique interest in leisure ministry. They come from all walks of life. They welcome you and care about you; feel free to ask them from any of the park employees.

Chaplains provide:

• Worship events (Sunday Services and Vesper Services)
• "A listening ear" for campers with spiritual concerns or other problems.
• Emergency Pastoral care.
• Special events for families and children, such as hymn sings, campfire events, volleyball, children's crafts and story hours, family movies; all dependent on the needs and interests of the campers.
• Prayer with you or for you or others as you request.
• Service to approximately 30,000 campers across the state each year!
  

Who sponsors and funds the Chaplains?

• Local Church bodies, ministeriums, Christian coalitions and the Pennsylvania Council of Churches.
• You, the camper, with your generous contributions at worship events. We depend upon, and deeply appreciate, your prayers and donations. All contributions go directly into the Leisure Ministries Program to help fund nearly forty camping sites across the state.
